Steps for Applying
If you are interested in joining our team of exceptional firefighters, review the information below, and contact us at 479-986-6801, if you have any questions about the department.
There are four steps to becoming a Rogers firefighter:
Step 1:
Fill out a job application at www.rogersar.gov/fireapp .
Step 2:
Sit for an entry-level written test with the National Testing Network. To schedule a test, go to National Testing Network and select Rogers (Arkansas) Department.
Step 3:
Complete a Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) exam. Exams are offered nationwide, and testing locations can be found at the following sites:

Step 4:
Complete Civil Service and Battalion Chiefs' interview. You will be notified when the next date is set for interviews.
Hiring Requirements
To be considered for employment the following criteria must meet:
- Completed all four of the previous steps
- Have graduated from high school or achieved a GED certification
- Possess a valid motor vehicle operator license
- Have a current CPR card
- Must have an Arkansas Emergency Medical Technician License or have the ability to gain an Arkansas EMT license via reciprocity. EMT students are allowed to test but are not eligible for hiring until this requirement is met.
- Must be between the ages of 18-35 at the date of appointment or have previous full-time firefighting experience. Example: (Candidate is 42 years old with 8 years of verifiable full-time firefighting experience) Effective Age: 34 years old.
- Provide an Affidavit of Non-Smoking (PDF)
FAQs
Q: When can I turn in my application?
A: The Rogers Fire Department accepts applications year around. Your application is good for a time period of one year. Watch this site and our Facebook Page for interview announcements.
Q: How old do I have to be to get hired at the Rogers Fire Department?
A: By civil service state law, you have to be between the ages of 18-35 at the time of hiring. The exception to that rule, is if you have previous career experience as a firefighter. The number of years of experience is deducted from your age.
Q: What is required of the CPAT exam?

Q: I am already a career firefighter, do I have to go back through the Northwest Arkansas Regional Fire Academy?
A: If you are a career firefighter, you will be placed in a Verification of Skill Sets (V.O.S.S.) Orientation. This is a five week orientation that will check your skill sets upon successful completion for released to the Operations Division.
Q: Is there a restriction on where you can live?
A: The Rogers Fire Department does not have a living restriction.
Q: What type of shifts do your firefighters work?
A: The Rogers Fire Department is on a 48 hours on / 96 hours off rotation.
Q: Will the Department pay for me to go to Paramedic school?
A: Yes, the Department pays for you to attend paramedic school. In addition, you receive one-half of your paramedic pay while you are in school.
Q: Are there promotional opportunities within the Department?
A: The Department has the following ranks:
- Firefighter/EMT
- Firefighter/Paramedic
- Master Paramedic
- Fire Equipment Officer
- Captain
- Battalion Chief
- Deputy Fire Chief
- Fire Chief
Q: Do you pay incentives for being a paramedic on the ambulance?
A: Yes, working paramedics receive an additional stipend for working on the ambulance.
